1960 Rambler at Hot August Nights 2017

One day, I went over to the Atlantis to see what was going on over there.  I walked around and checked out the cars, booths, and the people.  I ended up leaning against a lamp post near this 1960 Rambler and started watching the owner do some last minute cleaning and rearranging of her car.  I walked over to her and asked her my favorite opening question when talking to the owner, "So, what am I looking at here?"  I spent the next hour getting a lesson on the 1960 Rambler, how much work had been done on it, how rare this part is, road tripping to Wisconsin for a Rambler reunion, etc.  This car is the owner's pride and joy, and her enthusiasm was great.  She told me her stories, trials, and tribulations with a big smile on  her face.  These are the people that make going to car shows so much fun.  With so many grumpy folks in the world today, she was a ray of sunshine.  She had my undivided attention the whole time while talking to her.  My only regret is that I didn't get a picture of her standing next to her car.

Front End View - look at all that chrome!

I had been talking to her for at least 1/2 hour and kept noticing this emblem on the rear quarter panel.  I kept thinking it was just some Rambler emblem on there, when I realized I was looking at the gas cap.  I asked her about it, and got a story.  She and her husband were installing an air conditioning system on a house, and she went underneath the house to finish up the duct work.  She was on one end on the house where a previous owner had added on a garage.  She felt her knee hit something buried in the dirt, but finished up the duct work.  She then dug up the object, and it was this gas cap for a Rambler!  What were the chances of that?  I figured a previous owner must have dropped the cap, or it fell of a bench/table, and rolled under the house through a gap between the house and garage.  That poor owner must have gone crazy trying to figure out what the heck happened to that dang gas cap.

Hot August Nights 2017 - Car Pictures

Pictures of various cars that caught my eye while hanging out at the various venues at Hot August Nights 2017.

But let me start with this iconic image

The bottom two lines reflect my philosophy regarding attending car shows.

This extremely clean GTO was my first car picture at Hot August Nights this year

A "six pack" under the hood of another GTO

That is one clean engine compartment

1970 Boss 302

And the exterior

Somehow this 69 crashed the 1970 party

I didn't see many Corvairs in Reno

AMX

I like the look of this Camaro

The wheels have to go  :(

A 428 stuffed under a display hood.  There was an information sheet explaining how rare these hoods are and were only used by dealerships.

I have no idea whose 65 2+2 is in the background  :)

At a small show at the Summit store in Sparks.

The 70's called...they want their stance back  :)

This spot must have been reserved for green cars, or they pissed someone off and got sent to the end of the parking area.

The interior of a GTO at The Atlantis

I remember seeing these decals in the 1970's.  I thought it was for Thrush Mufflers, but the Thrush "bird" didn't have a cigar.

A Nash Metropolitan

And it's unique hood ornament

I called this area at the Grand Sierra Resort "Mopar Corner"

Gotta love them Hemis

Spotted these two in downtown Reno

The owner of this car came over to talk to me about my ignition, and as we were talking, I found out that his wife is from the same little town I live in...Douglas, AZ
